Welcome to Artist Waves’ Pearl Jam week. Leading up to their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction on Friday, we will have one unique feature per day as a small token of our appreciation, and in effort to give back to band to that gives so much.

Part 2: We take a look at how the words surf the music and find 10 sets of lyrics that can move mountains. How do you pick just 10? Not an easy task, but what I noticed when looking at the final list was telling — albums from throughout their catalog are represented, and the inspiring lyrics come in all shapes and sizes — some in form of an entire song and some in just nine words.

“Porch” ~ Hear my name, take a good look, this could be the day.

“Release” ~ I am myself like you somehow. I’ll ride the wave where it takes me.

“Rearviewmirror” ~ I gather speed from you fucking with me. Once and for all, I’m far away. I hardly believe, finally the shades are raised.

Original art by Pete Marsh

“Given to Fly” ~ A wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw delivered him wings, ‘Hey, look at me now.’ Arms wide open with the sea as his floor …flying…

He floated back down ’cause he wanted to share his key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere. But first he was stripped and then he was stabbed by faceless men, well, fuckers …he still stands.

“Light Years” ~ We were but stones, your light made us stars.

“Love Boat Captain” ~ The whole damn song

“I Am Mine” ~ I know I was born and I know that I’ll die. The in-between is mine. I am mine.

“Inside Job” ~ I will not lose my faith. It’s an inside job today.

How I choose to feel is how I am.

Let me run into the rain to shine a human light today. Life comes from within your heart and desire.

“Unthought Known” ~ Feel the air up above, a pool of blue sky. Fill the air up with love, oh black with starlight. Feel the sky blanket you, with gems and rhinestones. See the path cut by the moon, for you to walk on.

“Sirens” ~ Let me catch my breath and breathe and reach across the bed. Just to know we’re safe I am a grateful man. The slightest bit of light and I can see you clear.

But all things change, let this remain.

It’s a fragile thing this life we lead if I think too much I can get over whelmed by the grace by which we live our lives with death over our shoulders. Want you to know that should I go I always loved you held you high above, true. I study your face and the fear goes away.

Honorable Mention:
“Oceans” ~ for its sheer beauty and serenity.
“Indifference” ~ for its fortitude.
“Hard to Imagine” ~ for being “Hard to Imagine” … It just is… I’m… trying to explain, somehow.
