Kay takes us inside the thrill of having her song be a part of such an important documentary

18-year-old, Maisy Kay has a powerful new record out now, entitled Disguises. Within the six songs is the beautiful track “Heart of the Ocean,” which was chosen to feature in the Wonders Of The Sea 3D documentary (directed by Jean-Michel Cousteau and narrated by Arnold Schwarzenegger).

Wonders Of The Sea 3D, follows Jean-Michel Cousteau and his children Celine and Fabian, as they embark on a voyage to discover the ocean as never seen before. With an up-close look, they highlight the incredible bio-diversity of the underwater world. Furthermore, they educate the viewer of the threats that put the ocean at risk, and what you can do about it.

Maisy Kay’s track “Heart of the Ocean” perfectly aligns with the inspiration within this moving film. Here, Kay details the emotion of her experience.

How This Collaboration Came To Be:

The opportunity came about through my record label. The filmmakers had heard some of my released music, and had gotten in touch, with the intention of creating some form of collaboration. I jumped at the chance, as a film with a message like this is extremely important to me.

The Meaning and Emotion Behind “Heart of the Ocean”:

I really tried to capture the importance of ocean conservation in the song. The directors really expressed the importance of the younger generation learning from the movie, so I organized a children’s choir to sing with me. When I wrote “Heart of the Ocean” I felt incredibly inspired, and I hope anyone listening to the song can feel the same way.

Writing The Song:

Funnily enough, I wrote the song immediately after watching the movie for the first time. They played me what they had, I came home, went straight to my piano and wrote the song in about 20 minutes. Within the next few hours, we had a demo recorded and ready to go!

This Mission of Wonders of the Sea 3D:

I have always cared a lot about nature, in fact I always said if I wasn’t a singer i would work with animals. I think ocean conversation is so incredibly important, and this movie really captures how easy it is to fall in love with the sea and the creatures in it.

What This Collaboration Means To Me:

I feel so incredibly honored to be a part of such a revolutionary project. It’s my first song to ever feature in a movie, and for me there really is no better project to have been a part of. Everyone involved with making the movie has been so kind and wonderful, it was a pleasure to work with all of them, and I couldn’t be more proud of the results.

This movie will really change the way you feel about the ocean. Every small detail is so brilliantly done, from the narration, to the soundtrack, is so eloquently put together that every time I watch it, it feels as magical as the very first time. “Heart of the Ocean” is one of the most special and important songs I’ve ever created, and I cannot wait for the world to see it’s message.
