Rock Kix: Chris Martin, John Mayer, Scott Ian, Gavin Rossdale, Flea & more

When you think about crucial tour preparation, things like — vocal strength, instrument tunings and stage equipment are always first to pop-to-mind. But what about the physical component? Traveling around the globe and bouncing on stage for two hours a night can take a toll on your body. Feet don’t fail me now.

Over the past ten years, as the world of touring has become the life-blood of making money in the music industry, it has become vital for artists to take care of their bodies. One of the most important factors in that is your feet. Just ask Steven Tyler who has had numerous surgeries stemming from issues developed over the years from jamming his feet into not-so-stage friendly shoes.

Walk this way…

You can argue that Run DMC were pioneers in the space of stage kicks becoming cool and part of the aura. Today, many artists are paying attention to what actually holds them up, and are doing so with style. If you’re a sneaker junkie, there are some killer kicks being rocked by top artists everywhere.

In the grand scheme of things, it might be meaningless. It’s about the music, so who really cares what shoe a rock star is sporting. Nonetheless, it can be part of the visual. Candlebox frontman, Kevin Martin, has often told me bands are now evolving into brands. Makes sense. If that’s the case, there can be an additional element to the importance of “stage shoes”.

Here are 10 of the sharpest kicks I’ve noticed being rocked on stage.
